Sparkle Chair Scoops Award at Best of the Bay Awards!!
The Sparkle team had a great night last week at the 2023 Best of the Bay Awards ceremony. We were thrilled that Baylight, in it’s first year, had been nominated for the Best Visitor Attraction/Tourism award, and our Chair Sian Johnson was nominated for the Unsung Hero award.
It was a sparkling event, and we were seated with our pals at the Morecambe winter Gardens and Totally Local Lancaster (Sparkle team member Vik also helps run TLL).
In the end, Baylight lost out on the Visitor Attraction award to Vik and her team at TLL, but we were thrilled for them regardless (next year it’s ours!!).
Our stalwart Chair, Sian however, fared better and deservedly walked away with the award for Unsung Hero. Sian has had a rich and varied career with over 45 years in manufacturing and retail, and as a consultant in tourism and the creative industries. Since retiring she has worked tirelessly for the arts in the district for many years, and all as an unpaid volunteer. Sian was a founding member of the Morecambe Artist Colony where she helped to bring the Tide and Tide Bell to Morecambe among other things and is Chair of the Venus & Cupid Arts Trust. She is a member of the Morecambe BID steering group and a past trustee at The Dukes. Well done Sian!!
In fact, our entire table fared very well in the end as Professor Vanessa Toulmin, Chair of the Morecambe Winter Gardens Preservation Trust walked away with not one but two awards, winning both Ambassador of the Year and Fundraiser of the Year!
We are now of course busy at work planning to make Baylight ’24, which we are sure will be an even bigger and better event, so get those dates for Baylight ’24 in your diary, invite all your family and friends to visit for the event and prepare for the fun! Baylight ’24 takes place over 15th-17th February 2024 (half-term hols week).
