Have Fun & Light in the dark at Baylight

Morecambe, you were wonderful! We pulled together a team of amazing volunteers to help us put on Baylight ’23. We simply couldn’t have done it without you! But now we are planning for Baylight ’24 and in order for the event to be a success we need as much help as possible, in short, we need you!

We could not run Baylight without an amazing team of volunteers who get stuck into every aspect of the event including
  • Distributing marketing material in January
  • Supporting artists during installation week
  • Running installations and talking to audiences about the artworks
  • Taking photos for audiences
Most roles are outdoors and at the mercy of the UK weather, but if you come in a warm winter coat and a smile, we’ll provide hot drinks, food and a certificate for those that come and help.  A huge thank you goes to The Stone Jetty Café for the use of their facilities during the festival.
Would you like to join the Baylight ’24 volunteer team and help us to showcase fabulous Morecambe?

How do I get there?2023-11-02T12:09:59+00:00

The event all takes place on Morecambe prom so there are many ways to get here, the train station is a 5-minute walk to the prom, various bus routes come into Morecambe from Lancaster and Carnforth etc and there is plenty of parking around the town (parking will not be provided for volunteers).

Do I need a DBS or first aid training?2023-11-02T12:09:39+00:00

No, we have multiple staff in the main team that have these and we will have a first aid company on hand if we need them.

What do I need to bring with me?2023-11-02T12:09:18+00:00

It is February, in the evening, and it’s an outdoor event so make sure you wrap up warm and are protected against the cold and possibly wet weather. We will provide High Viz vests for all volunteers.

What will I be doing?2023-11-02T12:26:09+00:00

We have several roles:

Visitor Support – will be stationed at key points along the prom to direct visitors, providing information to everyone about the event.

Installation Assistants – will be stationed at a particular installation making sure people do not climb on it or damage it. If it is an interactive installation you will be making sure there is no overcrowding and everyone is kept safe.

Parade Assistants – For our parade night you will be helping keep the parade flowing and helping stop overcrowding on the prom.

Will I get paid?2023-12-12T12:22:37+00:00

This is a voluntary role, but we will provide refreshments throughout the night for you. We can provide a per diem payment to cover your costs, and a certificate to add to your cv.

When will I be needed?2023-11-02T12:08:07+00:00

We will need volunteers on all 3 nights of the event so you would be required from approximately 5pm-10.30pm each night.

Do I need previous Experience?2023-10-30T16:28:33+00:00

No, this is not necessary, however, you have to be able to talk to people and help take charge of a crowd or deal with a situation that may arise calmly.
